Liberal Democrat Policy on National Spending
The Liberal Democrats are a leading party in politics in the United Kingdom. Their policies are for the most part considered to be on the left side of the aisle, and although they are the third largest political party, they still wield considerable influence in the British political arena.
The Lib Dems have pushed in recent years for a decentralized National Health Service, diverting income from the National Insurance contributions to fund the initiative. With schools and local services being funded out of the National Insurance fund, the proposal is to have a local income tax to offset the costs.
Also in favour of allowing individuals to purchase clinically approved non-tax payer funded drugs, the Lib Dems wanted to ensure the costs were not tacked on somehow to the National Health Service. This also included reducing the capability for the NHS to somehow charge for other services.
The Liberal Democrats hope to be the party that leads to the end of poverty in the United Kingdom and they have set forward a strategy they hope to see accomplished by 2020. This includes getting 5 million people out of poverty, employ another two million people over current rates, and have one million affordable homes built for “average” income families.
The strategies to achieve this bold plan include increasing the quality of education for 1.5 million children, and raising the child benefit five pounds per week, per child for families receiving assistance. They hope to decrease teenage pregnancy through increased education, and save money by reducing overpayments and errors in the public assistance programs. |
