United Kingdom Liberal Democrat Finance Policies
2008 may well be the year the world became very aware of the finance industry and how it can affect all areas of the economy. The Liberal Democratic Party in the United Kingdom has a plan to reform the UK’s finance industry. The name of the plan is a “New Deal for the City.” The goal of the plan is to curb the boom bust excesses of binge lending that has led to such upheaval in the world’s economics.
The proposal includes regulating the bonuses paid to executives in firms that are in peril, as well as using housing prices when considering the inflation index. The proposal also seeks to regulate bank charges, as well as to tax all housing gains in property value as capital gains.
Lib Dems would like to see that houses that cannot be sold are purchased for the homeless, as well as for those that have to rent due to the high cost of home ownership. The Lib Dems also feel the government should tighten its belt in these tough times and work towards having a balanced budget through cutting excess spending.
Regarding taxation, the Lib Dems would like to see a greener tax code offering incentives for individuals and companies that consume less. They would like the taxation system linked closer to local services that are simpler, with less regulations and smaller returns. They also envision a fairer system with tax cuts for the poor and fewer loopholes for the rich. |
